I have been deeply honored to work alongside Indigenous Peoples, learning from their wisdom, resilience, and stewardship of the land. These experiences have shaped my commitment to advancing Indigenous rights and conservation practices rooted in traditional knowledge. Now, I have the opportunity to take this work to the next level by attending the Indigenous Conservation Collaborations program at Arizona State University (ASU).

This program brings together Indigenous leaders, conservation practitioners, and scholars to explore collaborative approaches to protecting lands, waters, and cultures. It also offers a unique chance to deepen my understanding of United Nations mechanisms that support Indigenous sovereignty, environmental justice, and global sustainability.

Why This Program Matters

Bridging Indigenous Knowledge and Global Policy: The program emphasizes how Indigenous-led conservation can inform international frameworks, including those of the UN. My last job introduced me to several Indigenous communities that were facing eviction from their homelands in order to "protect" the lands biodiversity. The UN Mechanisims was their last recourse for justice and protection but many of our Indigenous communities are left unaware, unable to participate or left out of

Practical Skills for Advocacy: I will gain tools and knowledge to strengthen partnerships, navigate policy spaces, and amplify Indigenous voices in decision-making.

Community Impact: By attending, I will bring back knowledge and strategies to support the communities I work with, ensuring their perspectives are represented in both local and global conservation efforts.

My Experience and Commitment

I have worked directly with Indigenous communities across the continent on issues related to protection of their homelands, cultural survival and, storytelling projects. This work has taken place in Texas, the Gulf Coast, across the Continent.

These collaborations have shown me the urgent need for capacity-building and representation in international forums.

My long-term goal is to serve as a bridge between Indigenous communities and global institutions like the UN, ensuring that policies reflect and protect the lived realities of those most connected to the land.
