Hi!

I’m incredibly grateful and excited to share that my application was accepted to volunteer for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, and I will be heading to Alaska in early March.

The Iditarod holds deep personal meaning for me. My Great Uncle Lee was heavily involved with the race for many years, including spending around a decade as the Director of the Board, and he attended numerous races throughout his lifetime. Being able to attend—and now volunteer for—the Iditarod has always been a goal of mine, and this opportunity feels especially meaningful as a way to honor his legacy.

Volunteering for the Iditarod is unpaid, and traveling to Alaska in winter comes with significant expenses. Funds raised will be used to help cover:

Airfare to and from Alaska

Arctic-appropriate clothing (coat, boots, gloves, hat, etc.)

Any additional necessary expenses that may arise during my volunteer assignment

While I don’t yet know the full details of my role, and there may be limitations on what I’m able to publicly share, I plan to share as much of the experience as I can once I know more.

After my forced departure from veterinary medicine, I’ve been searching for a way to continue working with animals in any capacity. Sled dogs and winter have always been two of my favorite things, and this opportunity feels like a meaningful step forward during a transitional chapter of my life.
