Hello, my name is Hannah — though most people online know me as Doc. My family and I have been working so hard to move out of our low-income apartment complex and into a safer, better home. We saved everything we could and paid what we were told we owed. But after giving them the full amount, we were suddenly hit with an additional bill of over $1,000 for “damages and replacements” — things we never asked for or even knew about. Now, until that debt is paid, we are stuck here.

Right now, I’m unable to work because I’m focusing on my education, and both of my parents struggle with severe back problems and other health issues that sometimes leave them unable to work at all. Because of this, we’ve been living day-to-day, often without enough food. Some days, we’re lucky if we get one meal. We always make sure our cat — who means the world to us — eats before we do, even when it means we go hungry.

We just want a chance to move forward… to live somewhere we can feel safe, healthy, and hopeful again. But we can’t take that step until we overcome this unexpected financial hurdle.
