Hey everyone,

My name is Joseph, and this is really hard for me to write, but my family needs help.

On December 29th, my dad was detained by ICE while my mom and dad were heading to work. They were both in the parking lot, about to leave and drop off my baby brother at his babysitter’s when ICE rushed in the parking lot and forced my dad out of the car. They were going to take my mom as well, but when they saw her with a baby, they decided not to.

My dad has been living and working in California for a little over 18 years. Over those 18 years he has committed no crimes and has always worked to provide for our family. He has always avoided trouble of any kind and has only been looking out for my sisters, me and now my baby brother.

My mom hasn’t been able to work much for a while because she recently gave birth. Right now, she doesn’t have much money to fall back on, and on top of that, she now lives in constant fear that the same thing could happen to her since she also works in the fields.

I’m currently in college, and I’ve been getting by using my savings because I haven’t been able to find a job that can work around my class schedule. Those savings that I have are almost gone. I never imagined benign in this position where I’d have to step away from college, and leave the opportunity I had to pursue a higher education, especially after working so hard to get here and accomplishing a dream that I once thought it was impossible for me to get to. Right now I’m preparing to do that so I can work full time and help my mom take care of my siblings and our household.

With my dad gone, everything changed, and my mom and I are doing everything we can to take care of my siblings and keep our family to get her.

We’re asking for help to cover basic things like rent, utilities, food, and transportation while we try to figure out what comes next. Any amount truly helps, and even just sharing this means a lot to us.

Me llamo Joseph, y esto es muy difícil de escribir para mí, pero mi familia necesita ayuda.

El 29 de diciembre, mi padre fue detenido por ICE mientras mi madre y mi padre se dirigían al trabajo. Ambos estaban en el estacionamiento, a punto de irse y dejar a mi hermano pequeño con su niñera cuando ICE se apresuró al estacionamiento y obligó a mi padre a salir del carro. También iban a llevarse a mi mamá, pero cuando la vieron con un bebé, decidieron no hacerlo.

Mi padre ha estado viviendo y trabajando en California durante poco más de 18 años. Durante esos 18 años el no ha cometido ningún delito y siempre ha trabajado para mantener a nuestra familia. Siempre ha evitado problemas de cualquier tipo y solo ha estado cuidando a mis hermanas, a mí y ahora a mi hermano pequeño.

Mi mamá no ha podido trabajar mucho durante un tiempo porque dio a luz recientemente. En este momento, no tiene mucho dinero al que apoyarse, y además de eso, ahora vive con miedo constante de que le pueda pasar lo mismo, ya que también trabaja en el campo.

Actualmente yo estoy en la universidad, y he estado usando mis ahorros porque no he podido encontrar un trabajo que pueda adaptarme a mi horario de clases. Esos ahorros que tengo casi se han acabado. Nunca imaginé estar en esta posición en la que tendría que alejarme de la universidad y dejar la oportunidad que tenía de poder alcanzar una educación superior, especialmente después de trabajar tan duro para llegar aquí y cumplir un sueño que una vez pensé que era imposible para mí alcanzar. Ahora mismo me estoy preparando para hacer eso para poder trabajar a tiempo completo y ayudar a mi mamá a cuidar de mis hermanos y de nuestra casa.

Con la aubsencia de mi papá, todo cambió, y mi madre y yo estamos haciendo todo lo posible para cuidar de mis hermanos y mantener a nuestra familia unida.

Estamos pidiendo ayuda para cubrir gastos básicas como la renta, la comida y el transporte mientras tratamos de averiguar qué viene después. Cualquier cantidad realmente ayuda, e incluso solo compartir esto significa mucho para nosotros.
