Hello, my name is John David Elzeer, and I am a Life Scout with Troop 223 working toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America. As part of this journey, I am planning and leading a service project to restore and map a section of the Turnverein – Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Gotha, Florida.
My Eagle Scout project involves clearing weeds, brush, and overgrowth in this historic cemetery to make it more accessible and respectful for visitors. Once the area is cleared, I will use ground-penetrating radar to locate unknown grave sites. This process will help determine whether unmarked graves exist in certain sections of the cemetery, ensuring that all burials are properly documented and preserved.
This project preserves the history of the cemetery, provides valuable records for families and the community, and helps maintain the site for future generations. It is also an opportunity for me to demonstrate leadership by organizing volunteers, managing resources, and overseeing the project from start to finish.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of April.
My goal is to raise approximately $500* to cover the costs associated with completing this project. All funds raised through this campaign will be used solely to support this Eagle Scout project, which directly benefits the Turnverein – Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. If the project is completed under budget, any remaining funds will be donated to the cemetery or used to further improve the site.
I would greatly appreciate anything you can do to support this worthy cause while helping me to complete this important milestone on my journey to becoming an Eagle Scout.
No donation is too small, and sharing this fundraiser with others would mean a lot to me.
*Note: Please note that donations are not tax-deductible, as this fundraiser is being conducted by an individual Scout and not a registered nonprofit organization.
