Support My Continued Reporting on Deana Sherif’s Bail
Donation protected
I am a journalist covering Canada’s protest circuit and hate industry.
On August 31, 2024, Deana Sherif was arrested for allegedly breaching her bail, causing a disturbance, and obstructing police. I solicited donations to cover travel expenses to report on her latest bail proceedings in person. The matter got adjourned four times, requiring two separate trips to Ottawa plus overnight accommodations.
Turns out, my instinct to attend the physical courtroom was well-founded; virtual observers were abruptly kicked out about an hour into the bail hearing on September 10, 2024. Fewer than a dozen people were privy to arguments by defence and prosecution about whether Deana should be released.
The case is subject to a publication ban, but I can report that Deana's demeanour in court included inappropriate stretching, yawning, and laughter. Additionally, I am raising concerns about potential witness perjury with the Crown's office.
Justice of the Peace Porter will render her decision later this week. Although that is supposed to happen on Friday, it might take place on Thursday. The public will not be advised of any schedule change in advance, so I am sticking around Ottawa to be here just in case.
Several irregularities have already emerged in connection with Deana's criminal charges. These include a bail hearing disrupted by explicit pornography, a bail review held off the docket (thus preventing public observation), and virtual observers using abusive display names to harass and mock Deana's targets. These are just a few examples.
I plan on following this case to the end, and your support has been invaluable in getting me this far.
