Support my brother through a rare and life-changing journey

Friends and family ❤️

I’m writing this with a very heavy heart. My brother Lee has been diagnosed with an extremely rare and complex brain tumour.

Lee’s tumour is so rare that only around 20-30 cases have ever been recorded in the entire world! It’s not only in a delicate area of the brain near his optic nerves and pituitary gland, but it is also highly vascular (meaning it has a massive blood supply). Over the past six months, Lee has endured endless hospital appointments, scans, and tests. Each new test revealing more and more devastating complications. Surgeries have been planned, delayed, and cancelled due to the risks.

We’ve now run out of options, and doctors have confirmed that surgery is the ONLY route we can take, but it’s incredibly dangerous:

  • There’s a very high risk of permanent blindness.
  • Its location and blood supply make it impossible to carry out a procedure to reduce the risk of bleeding beforehand, so surgery will be even more complex.
  • The tumour has completely enveloped Lee’s pituitary gland, which means it will need to be removed, resulting in lifelong health challenges.
  • The risks of the surgery include stroke and swelling in critical areas of the brain.

And, to be honest, there are even further complications that we don’t want to imagine.

Even in the best-case scenario, Lee will need months of recovery, with no guarantee he can return to his job due to its physical nature. It’s hard to put into words how scary this is for Lee, his wife, and their two young daughters. Nothing prepares you for something like this.

So, we’re asking for your help.

Lee and his wife are doing their best to keep everything as normal as possible for their girls, but the financial stress is enormous. Between hospital costs (yes, we’ve already had to go private for some appointments), lost income, and the months of recovery ahead, it’s overwhelming.

To support them, my parents, my partner, my best friend, and I have decided to take on a challenge: we’re doing a triathlon covering the distance between our home and Disneyland Paris – nearly 400 miles! We’ll be completing this on treadmills, in swimming pools, and on bikes, as the cost and logistics of physically making the trip would add unnecessary expense that we need to pass onto Lee.

Why Disneyland? Lee’s daughter, Millie, has been selected to perform in the Disneyland parade in February – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we want to experience as a family with Lee by our side. While it’s becoming more and more unlikely that Lee will be able to make the trip, it’s something meaningful to us as a family.

We know times are tough for everyone, but we would be incredibly grateful for any support you can give – whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page. Every bit of help, no matter how small, will go towards easing the financial stress on Lee’s family.

Right now, we’ve set the target at £5,000, but we’re fully aware that, depending on the outcome, this may not be enough. We just want to give Lee and my amazing sister-in-law, Amie, some breathing room so they can focus on getting Lee through this surgery and onto recovery.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read Lee’s story. Your kindness and support mean more to us than words can express.
