We are supporting mothers and daughters in a rural village to manage their periods safely by providing them with reusable period pads and menstrual health education. We are creating a sustainable project by training the local nurses and teachers to deliver menstrual health education and working with the local sewing centre to teach a group of 25 women to make the pads - allowing for distributions to continue beyond our trip. The pads last at least five years providing a long-term solution to period poverty, allowing women and girls to go to work and school during their periods and prevent them from developing infections from using inappropriate products.
Our needs assessments found that over 60% of women and girls have had infections from not using safe period products or from overusing them due to the expense and nearly 40% miss work or school due to period poverty. During our first menstrual health session very few of the young girls knew about periods, showing how necessary this work is.
This is a SADAQAH only project, thank you.
