I’m organising this fundraiser on behalf of my sister, who is currently navigating an extremely difficult situation while living abroad in Canada with her two young children.

After moving overseas with her partner in 2024, their relationship broke down and they separated in 2025. She is now navigating an extremely complex and long winded family court and immigration situation. As it stands she is stuck in Canada, raising a 1 and 4 year old with no family in the country, receiving minimal financial support and working very limited hours due to childcare responsibilities. There is a real concern that if her former partner obtains permanent residency before the case is resolved, they could all become permanently stuck - not only in Canada, but in the province they currently live in.

Late last year into early this year I spent two months in Canada doing my best to support her and saw first-hand the constant pressures she faces, including financial constraints and the demands of navigating such a complicated legal process while caring for two small children.

Unfortunately the legal process has already cost her many thousands of dollars/pounds, and she has recently had to make the very difficult, and brave, decision to represent herself in court going forward because continuing with legal representation is just no longer financially possible.

Over the past couple of months things have been particularly challenging, with back-to-back childhood illnesses keeping the children home from daycare, alongside a number of health concerns she is having to manage herself. These are the kinds of pressures that would normally be much easier to face with family/friend support nearby, but she is currently dealing with them alone.

We are hoping to raise some funds to help her manage the practical realities of this situation so she can focus on caring for and keeping things stable for the children, while also preparing the court documents she now has to handle herself.

This is a deeply personal situation and she has tried to handle it quietly and with dignity. Many people have asked how they can help, so this felt like a practical way for friends and family to offer support if they wish.

There is absolutely no pressure to donate. Messages of support, encouragement, or simply sharing the page privately with someone who may want to help are also incredibly appreciated.

Please be extremely mindful of the need for discretion due to the ongoing legal processes. To respect their privacy and safety, this should not be shared publicly on social media and has only been sent to trusted friends, family and acquaintances.

Right now the goal is simply to help her stay stable, safe, and able to keep advocating for herself and her children during an incredibly challenging time.
