Founded in 2025, this foundation was built from a deep passion for the game of hockey and an even deeper commitment to giving back. Kat’s brother, Mason Geertsen, is currently in his 11th season in the NHL, and their shared experience in the sport has inspired a mission to create more opportunity for the next generation.

Every child deserves the chance to experience the joy, discipline, and teamwork that hockey brings but for many families, financial barriers make that opportunity out of reach.

The Geertsen Opportunity Foundation is changing that.

Through free and low-cost hockey camps led by professional players, providing essential equipment, and offering support in nutrition and mental skills training, the foundation is removing barriers and opening doors for young athletes to grow, develop, and thrive.

Their mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that financial hardship never stands in the way of passion, potential, and opportunity.

Funds raised will go directly toward creating more access—helping more kids step onto the ice, build confidence, and chase their dreams in the game they love.
