Support Mona's Fight for Her Nephews' Safety

My name is Mona, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart. I’m the maternal aunt and legal guardian of my two nephews, ages 12 and 13. Their father—who was incarcerated in connection with the loss of their mother, my sister—has recently been released and is now pursuing custody of the boys.

Since 2019, I have been fully committed to these boys—emotionally, financially, and in every way imaginable. I have been their steady source of love, care, and support, doing everything possible to provide them with a safe and nurturing home.

We were all in the home the day their father took their mother—my sister’s—life, and the trauma of that experience still, and will always, deeply affect us. My nephews have expressed that they do not feel safe having a relationship with their father. They are anxious, scared, and unsettled, and my greatest priority is to continue protecting them and helping them heal with the stability and love they so deeply need.

The ongoing custody matter has become incredibly difficult. I’ve had to respond to legal filings, will need to attend court hearings, and manage communications that have been both unexpected and upsetting for the boys. This situation has forced me to take time away from work, adding financial strain to an already emotional battle. On top of that, he is requesting that I pay for his attorney fees.

I’m doing everything I can to protect the boys and maintain the guardianship that gives them a sense of peace and consistency. Legal support is now essential as I move forward in seeking full and sole custody.
