My dear friends Doug and Greta are going through an incredibly hard time after the sudden loss of Doug’s daughter, Miriam Tucker. She was only 35 when she passed away from unexpected complications after surgery. Miriam was a loving, devoted mother figure to her three nephews—ages 6, 7, and 12—who had been in her care for the past six years. She was just three days away from finalizing the adoption and making their family complete.

Her loss has been heartbreaking for everyone who knew her, but especially for the boys who relied on her for love and stability and for her father as he faces the anguish of laying his child to rest. On top of the deep emotional pain, the family is now facing the financial strain of her interment, as well as the urgent needs of the children as they adjust to this sudden and life-changing loss.

Miriam’s father, Doug, and her stepmom, Greta, have lovingly stepped in to raise the boys alongside their own three similarly-aged children, ensuring the kids remain with family and surrounded by care and stability. While they navigate the adoption process, Doug & Greta have been instructed to maintain their residence and also to rent a residence where their grandchildren reside out of state, necessitating air travel or multi-day road trips for Greta (and the children) to be with Doug and the grandchildren for forthcoming adoption proceedings.
