We are a Title 1 neighborhood community school in south Minneapolis that is fundraising to provide financial support to our vulnerable families during the unprecedented federal occupation of our city. Many people in our community are being forced to shelter in their homes from racist and violent targeting; this has left them them unable to work, unable to get their kids to and from school, and unable to pay for rent, bills, or groceries.
Funds will be dispersed to families requesting help with rent, bills, food, transportation, and other necessities. We are also helping with laundry services, rides to appointments, transporting kids to and from school, and other forms of community care.
We are aiming to raise $70,000 to cover our anticipated mutual aid requests for the month of March. Any funds raised above our school community needs will be shared with other Minneapolis public school communities facing the same crisis.
The safety and well-being of students and their families is our number one priority. We have been overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of support from around the country, and we are hopeful that we can protect our community while we are under siege.
We keep us safe.
