I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my daughter-in-law and her family. Her grandmother, Mildred, has had a very hard couple of weeks. On October 18th, she went to the ER after a fall, and they discovered a severe wound on her foot. Because of her diabetes, she couldn’t feel it, and the infection had already spread to the bone.

She was transferred to UT Knoxville, where she spent 2 weeks in the hospital and went through four procedures — two foot surgeries, a vascular procedure to open a blockage in her leg, and finally, an amputation of her big toe and part of the bone in her right foot. After all of that, she’s finally been discharged and is now staying with Kaitlyn and family in South Carolina to recover.

Mildred can’t walk or put weight on her foot for several weeks and has a wound vac to help with healing. Kaitlyn has taken time off work to care for her full-time and keep her home instead of sending her to a skilled nursing facility. Unfortunately, she won’t be getting paid while she’s out of work, and of course the bills don’t stop when someone is sick.

I started this fundraiser to help cover bills and basic expenses along with some unexpected medical bills that Mildred has had come up during this time. Any help — whether it’s through a donation, a prayer, or sharing this page — would mean so much to the family.
