Help Us Lay Mikey to Rest – Justice for a Life Taken Too Soon

Hi, my name is Heaven Billups, and I’m fundraising on behalf of my family after the tragic and senseless loss of my cousin, Mikey.

Mikey was only 16 years old—a bright, funny, and loving young soul with his whole life ahead of him. On 6/19/2025 , Mikey was stabbed to death by a Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) worker after a misunderstanding and altercation that should have never escalated the way it did.

Witnesses say that Mikey and his girlfriend were vaping on the bus—along with other passengers. When asked to stop, words were exchanged, and Mikey and his girlfriend got off the bus, unsure if they were escorted off or left on their own but, the SacRT worker followed them off the bus, towards the bus stop and a confrontation began. During the fight, Mikey’s girlfriend stepped in to protect him, and that’s when the SacRT worker pulled out a knife and stabbed Mikey multiple times, ultimately taking his life.

Our family is heartbroken. A simple ride on public transportation turned into a nightmare we can’t wake up from. Mikey didn’t deserve this. No one does.

He was only 16 years old — full of life, love, and potential. We’re devastated and still trying to process this loss. During this incredibly painful time, we are asking for support to help with the unexpected costs that have come with his passing.
