If you've been to Indoor Gardens in Cleveland, you've probably met Mike Wilms. He's supported and helped build a community of gardeners, growers, and friends throughout Ohio for several years. More importantly, Mike has loved, supported, and devoted himself to his wife Jeannie and their children. There's no question that Mike has worked tirelessly and selflessly to support his family... and our community... and now, it's time for our community to support him.
Tragically and suddenly, Mike's wife, Jeannie, was diagnosed with lung cancer while 32 weeks pregnant with their third child together. Their son, Nash, was delivered 6 weeks early through an emergency c-section so that Jeannie could immediately begin treatment. Unexpectedly, nine days later, Jeannie suddenly lost her battle with cancer.
On top of losing the love of his life, Mike is now in the challenging position of being the sole provider and caretaker of his three children, a 14 year old daughter, a 6 year old son with special needs, and an infant who has just come home after spending time in NICU.
Mike and his children have several financial needs, including:
- Childcare (which is incredibly expensive for an infant, and for his 6 year old son who requires additional needs from a caretaker).
- Transportation costs to support: [1] Additional visits to the hospital for the doctors appointments that a premature delivery requires. [2] Continuing therapy and doctor appointments that Mike's 6 year old son continues to need. [3] Allowing Mike's 14 year old daughter to continue participating in after-school activities and the sports that she would like to remain involved in.
- Covering the additional expenses that were incurred as Jeannie went through the diagnosis, radiation, and chemotherapy treatments.
There's no question that the past several weeks have been incredibly difficult on Mike and his family. In addition to offering our emotional support, we can ease the financial burden for this family, giving them the time and space to work through the healing process together after the loss of their wife and mother.
