Support Mike Morris & family in his final days
Donation protected
I’m absolutely hopeless at asking for help, but…we need help. I’m the ex-wife of Mike Morris, mother of our beloved ex-teen, Eliza. After 6 years with a rare, incurable cancer (a gastrointestinal stromal tumor, or GIST), and increasingly toxic oral chemo, Mike also suffered a brain injury and “stroke event” that led to 4 months in the hospital. Since his discharge in June he has continued to decline; last week he decided to stop chemo so he could get hospice.
While hospice helps, it doesn’t cover his daily needs. In order to best support his care, in his apartment with a view of the Salish Sea, and allow us to sleep, we’d like to hire home care ($50/hour) to cover nights and some additional personal care. There’s no way to tell how much longer Mike will be with us so we’re starting with 2 months, and have built in enough hours to cover the option of room & board ($500-600/day) just in case he decides to move to receive hospice care at Kline Galland. The total is rounded up to cover his cremation, and pay for the trip Mike would like Eliza to take to scatter his ashes at Buddhist holy sites. If donations exceed our ask, a portion may be used to help me go with E; anything beyond that, and any funds not spent on Mike’s care, will go towards Eliza’s expenses to attend law school (they start UW School of Law in September) - an experience we had hoped Mike could share with them.
We thank the many friends who have kept Mike in your prayers, visited, helped cover nights (thank you, Bryanna), sent cards (& groceries - thank you, Abigail), and the kind words you’ve shared. I appreciate those of you who have urged me to set up this GoFundMe - it isn’t in my nature to ask for help, but we want to do more for Mike than we can on our own. It takes a village to usher someone out with dignity. Thank you for being part of Mike’s village.
