Support Micro-Preemie Kennedy and the Ganz Family

David and Kate Ganz are devoted teachers and parents to two young daughters, Teagan and Emerson. In early 2020, they were thrilled to learn that they were pregnant with their third child, Rowan. Tragically, they lost Rowan to a missed miscarriage at 20 weeks in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But by late summer 2020, they were thrilled to learn that they were pregnant with a baby boy! Because of the perfect storm of a high risk pregnancy and the pandemic, Kate was in and out of the hospital, teaching virtually from her hospital bed to save her limited sick days as a public school teacher. Despite near bed rest, she was diagnosed at 23 weeks with a placental abruption, a potentially life-threatening condition for both mom and baby. Kate underwent intense treatment to save the baby’s life, giving birth to Kennedy Robert Ganz on January 27, 2021 at only 24 weeks, 3 days.
At birth, Kennedy weighed just 800 grams and measured a tiny 31.5 centimeters in length. While mom and baby are holding steady as of February 1, 2021, Kennedy has a long road ahead of him with potential lifelong health conditions.

Throughout Kate’s difficult pregnancy, David and Kate both continued their work as teachers with David also working a second full-time job at Trader Joe’s to support the family (before her difficult pregnancy, Kate was working a second full-time job at Trader Joe’s, as well). Due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, neither David nor Kate are allowed to work at Trader Joe’s for the foreseeable future with Kate also having to take a maternity leave from her teaching position instead of teaching virtually to keep micro-preemie Kennedy healthy. With their usual 4 salaries down to 1, an unforeseen amount of medical bills ahead of them, daycare/preschool costs, and the usual high cost of living in New Jersey, the Ganz’s could REALLY use your help and support. Any amount you can give goes directly to taking care of baby Kennedy, medical costs, and care for the family during this challenging time.
