Michelle has been homeless in Oakland for 6 years since losing her housing, and she was most recently displaced at the sweep at Lake Merritt, where she was living in a tent by the water. Michelle has suffered at least 1 sweep per year during her period of homelessness. She is trying to get housed, but the process has been very difficult; and as Oakland escalates its sweep operations, Michelle's safety and quality of life is increasingly threatened. She shared many of her struggles with us, and talked about the vicious cycle of sweeps: how being forced into an even poorer quality of life while homeless simply makes it harder and harder to do what she needs to do to try and get housing again.

After this most recent sweep, Michelle expressed that it would be helpful to crowdfund for supplies to improve her quality of life while she's still outside. All funds raised will be cashed out to Michelle directly so that she can buy things like her preferred camping gear, food, toiletries, etc at her discretion. Thank you for the support!
