My name is Bethany Huff. I have worked with the homeless and less fortunate in Southern California for over 20 years. I believe everyone has the ability to change someone else's life for good.
My good friend Mia and her son Aaron are currently experiencing homelessness in Maryland. With homelessness come medical problems, sickness, hunger, and frequent harassment from authorities.
Mia grew up not knowing her mother and was raised by her maternal grandmother and her father until he was incarcerated when she was just 8 years old. Mia was raised and provided for by her grandmother until a few years ago. When her grandmother got sick, she and her son moved in with her to care for her and help her around the home. When Mia's grandmother passed away suddenly, she was unfortunately left with no one to help her navigate the grief and loss and nowhere safe to live. Thus, they have been living on the streets and have been in and out of hotels. Aaron has unfortunately missed quite a bit of school, and Mia has been unable to work due to childcare and a lack of housing.
The biggest goal for this GoFundMe is to connect Mia and her son with resources and people in Maryland that can help them get housed, find stable employment, assist with clothing needs, and get Aaron back into school so that they can thrive, not just survive.
Any money donated here will go directly to putting them in hotel rooms, food in their bellies, and warmer clothing as interim solutions.
