Warm summer nights stargazing. Having a cookout with your family and favorite summer foods. Gardens. A wintery snowball fight. Enjoying the outside is natural for human beings. Now imagine what it would be like to have Alzheimer's and being told you can't go outside because the enclosed attached courtyard isn't safe enough. It would take a mighty project to fix that situation. You can help people living with advanced Alzheimer's/dementia with the Project of Love!
Marlborough Healthcare Center in Marlborough CT has a fantastic Memory Special Care Unit serving 60 residents and their families. Recently, the management has renovated the "Legacy Living" activity/dining area with new flooring, paint, special tables and sound-absorbing artwork. We are raising funds to renovate the courtyard - our Project of Love. The vision is for a level, circular path (evidence-based best practice for environments that support those living with dementia), with new/safe furniture, a sensory garden (with non-toxic plants) and a family perennial garden where families can bring plants from their own gardens! The residents, staff and families are all working to raise funds to match a private donor's contributions. We have met with contractors, stamped concrete/masonry specialists and have secured donations for the sensory garden plants. We have volunteers who will provide live music for residents to enjoy. We have former family members providing flowering shrubs. Help us meet the mission of Marlborough Healthcare Center, a community of National Healthcare Associates, to care for people living with advanced dementia, and their families. With your contribution, we can improve the lives of the residents and meet our values of kindness, compassion, service and excellence. Thank you in advance.
