About Us
The Metro DC EDS and HSD Support Group seeks to provide support and resources to the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and Hypermobile Spectrum Disorders community in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, allowing our members to engage with others in the community; develop their knowledge of EDS, HSD, and co-morbidities; better advocate for themselves; and access resources that can assist in improving their quality of life. Things we do include: provide a forum for members to ask questions, offer virtual and in-person meetings and speakers, maintain a list of about 250 medical, legal, advocacy, and other providers recommended by members, advocate for our members when needed, support members' families and other caregivers, and provide useful information through our website, youtube channel, and Facebook page. For more information about our group, please see www.eds-dc.org.
Our Fundraising Campaign
Since it formed in January 2013, the support group has been funded by its volunteer organizers. We have grown from eight local DC area people at the initial meeting to over 650 people in broader DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. We have had as many people join the group so far this year as we did in all of 2025!
As such, we have decided to seek support through a GoFundMe campaign to cover our increasing costs and to expand our activities and engagement. Our goal is to raise at least $2,500 through this campaign to cover current and upcoming costs through 2027: renewing our email and web hosting platform for the next three years; organizing at least quarterly in-person events, including room fees, snacks, and drinks for the rest of this year and next; upgrading to our Zoom subscription to include webinars; finding a searchable database for our practitioner list; and covering other basic expenses. Funds also will go to a few initiatives we hope to announce shortly. Any surplus funds will be applied to additional in-person events and further growing initiatives.
Your support will help us meet the group's growing needs in meaningful ways as well as expand awareness of EDS and HSD in the broader community. We are grateful for any contribution, big or small, and appreciate your belief in our work.
Thank you for helping us build a stronger, more connected community.
