Support Menstrual Health for Apopka Farm Workers
Donation protected
Hello friends, my name is Mimi and I am collecting donations to purchase menstrual cups for farmworkers in Apopka, Florida.
Farmworkers in Florida face insanely difficult work conditions including but not limited to: working outside during dangerous weather and intense heat for upwards of 12 hours at a time, lack of access to restrooms or running water, and constant exposure to pesticides that are detrimental to the health and safety of farmworkers AND their families.
On top of this, women farmworkers lack access to basic menstrual hygienic care and are often expected to repurpose old clothing into sanitary pads. Pesticides are easily absorbed and can stay in fabrics for days at a time and take multiple washes to even reduce the amount in a single piece of fabric. Silicone menstrual cups absorb pesticides less and are easier for farmworkers to move and work with.
My goal is to raise enough funds to purchase up to 100 or more menstrual cups for the Farmworkers Association of Florida (FWAF).
"Established in 1983, the Farmworker Association of Florida (FWAF) is a statewide, grassroots, community-based, non-profit, farmworker membership organization with over 10,000 Haitian, Hispanic, and African American members and five offices in the state of Florida, working for social and environmental justice with farmworkers." https://floridafarmworkers.org/
FWAF is dedicated to empowering and uplifting farmworkers in Florida, and for over forty years they have been an instrumental organization for education, resources, activism, and more in central Florida.
Thank you to everyone who helps us reach this goal in support of farmworkers in central Florida experiencing period poverty.
Menstrual health is a human right!
