For over 40 years, this small sushi restaurant has been a cornerstone of the Antelope Valley, a place where families celebrated birthdays, regulars were greeted by name, and generations grew up sharing meals together.
Recently, a kitchen fire caused significant damage to the restaurant. While we are incredibly grateful that no one was hurt, the damage to the kitchen — the heart of the business — has forced the restaurant to close indefinitely.
The restaurant is owned and run by Meiko, who has courageously kept it going since the passing of her husband Masa, the chef and co-owner, a few years ago. Many in the community remember Masa not only for his food, but for his kindness, work ethic, and dedication. Meiko has continued his legacy with strength, heart, and deep love for this community.
The fire has also directly impacted Francisco, the current chef, and other staff members who are now facing unemployment as repairs, inspections, and insurance processes move forward. Like many in the service industry, his livelihood depends on being able to work — and right now, that opportunity has been taken away.
Because of this fire, Meiko and Francisco are now facing months — possibly up to a year — without income, while the restaurant remains closed. For a small, family-run restaurant, this kind of interruption can be devastating.
This fundraiser is intended to help with:
- Immediate fire and smoke damage cleanup
- Repairs and replacement of kitchen equipment
- Ongoing expenses while the restaurant is closed
- Basic living expenses during this unexpected loss of income
For decades, this restaurant has given so much to the Antelope Valley. Now is our chance to give back.
If you’ve ever eaten here, shared a memory, or simply believe in supporting long-standing local businesses and the people behind them, any amount truly helps.
Thank you for supporting Meiko and Francisco and helping ensure this beloved local landmark has the chance to reopen its doors.
