Support Megan's Family Through Hank's Recovery
Donation protected
Our dear friend and colleague, Megan, is one of the most generous, caring, funny, and kind people we are all lucky enough to have in our lives. Megan's son, Hank, is profoundly disabled and had a Bilateral Tib/Fib derotational osteotomy hamstring lengthening surgery. Megan and her husband, Gerard, along with their daughter, Ruby, knew this would be challenging for Hank and on their family. However, the long-term benefits outweighed the initial risk and difficulty. Unfortunately, even with mental preparation, this surgery has proved to be significantly more than they were expecting. Megan wrote the following on her facebook page to keep her friends in the loop:
"Currently at home, focusing on recovery. Things are incredibly tough right now. Hank is struggling to stand, walk, or even balance. Given his size, it’s become a massive effort, requiring 2-3 of us to assist with lifting, transferring, and basic needs like toileting. Our bodies ache, our backs are in agony. It’s disheartening to realize that our healthcare system’s solution is simply to send him home and expect us to manage. It’s a disgrace! What about families without adequate support, financial resources, or a partner to share the burden? It’s shameful and utterly unacceptable."
Megan and her family are wonderful people who constantly help others. This time, they could really use our help. Hank has full casts along the entirety of both legs and just needed to be re-casted (and placed under anesthesia once again) due to fear of infection. Please consider helping them as they navigate this incredibly difficult surgery and time in their lives. We love you Megan and family!!
