Support Megan and Everett's Medical Journey

I'm starting this GoFundMe for my younger sister who is sitting at the Boston Children's Hospital with her very sick three-year-old. She is under a tremendous amount of distress through the process - emotional, mental, and unseen financial burden. Megan is a single mom for her threenager son - and despite her amazing strength and being an incredible mother - they are both facing an uphill battle. My sister is one of the strongest people I know. She sets her sights in and focuses to make things happen and could use some help, a four-letter word she doesn't typically have in her vocabulary.

Everett wasn't feeling well at the beginning part of the week and my sister knew sickness was everywhere. He started to get very sunken and lethargic, so she brought him to the ER at NVRH. After being sent home, she went back the next day. Tests were done and they sent him to Elliott Hospital in Manchester. After continued testing, they transferred him again to the Boston Children's Hospital.

He's still at the Boston Children’s Hospital and will be here for what sounds like a minimum of a week. Could be significantly more.

He has a perforated appendix, a viral infection, bacterial infection, and ileus (essentially his GI is frozen and not working as it should). His appendix will need to be removed but he is too sick for that at the present time and it would be too risky of a surgery. He will be sent home to come back in around 6 weeks to have his appendix removed. He’s on lots of antibiotics and fluids, he is on the surgery floor and they are keeping close track of his vitals and updated bloodwork to make sure he’s getting exactly what he needs to be getting better.

However, we have no idea the costs out of pocket that are accruing. They have insurance, but with all the transports and specialized care, they are unsure what is being covered at this time. Megan also will have to be out of work for at least a few weeks to monitor and help her son. As a single parent, this burden takes its toll. She owns her own house and has monthly bills to worry about. We want to do everything possible to help her and support her.

We've been through so much together, and I love her with all my heart. As her big sister, I will bear her burdens any way I know how to, including asking for help. I’ve watched a new version of my little sister evolve as a parent. She is resilient and her strength is inspiring. Everett is the sweetest little man, and my best buddy, and this is extremely difficult for everyone but especially my little sister.

Your donation will go towards necessities like parking in Boston, medical bills, house bills, and other expenses for her and Everett as they navigate the world through this sickness and uncertainty.
