Hi friends, I’m grateful to be in DC for the long haul in a place of my own. The home-buying process has made me reflect a lot on how to be a good neighbor and to fight for a future where everyone has a home.
For the past few years, I’ve been volunteering at Christ House in Adams Morgan, which provides medical respite for men experiencing homelessness. Folks who stay at Christ House are being treated for things like cancer, hypertension and stroke, liver disease, kidney failure, diabetes and related amputations, HIV/AIDS, respiratory disease, major lacerations, fractures, ulcerations of the skin, or malnourishment, on top of the daily stress and impact of living outside or in a shelter. DC has 46 medical respite beds for the whole city, and 34 of them are at Christ House.
My goal is to raise $5,000 to support someone to receive medical care, case work, and meals at Christ House. If you’re able to make a donation of any amount, as a house warming gift of sorts, it would mean a lot. Thank you.
