My name is Melissa. I am McKenna's mom. My daughter McKenna 6 years old now, was born with a condition called 16p 11.2 Chromosome Deletion this is a condition that affects her physically, mentally, and emotionally . I am currently in the process of applying for Social Security for McKenna as we have managed it ALONE long enough and long term this is not sustainable for us , This funding is so that she is able to have her needs met as soon as possible . As well I am looking into and applying for state and federal grants that McKenna qualifies for but I am told that the process can be lengthy & Unfortunately, we are running into a few hiccups along the way, are now getting a lawyer involved to help navigate this and to speed up the process . I am raising funds to be able to transition from working outside of the home to be able to be home with her and transition to figuring out an at home remote work life balance.
McKenna has many doctor's appointments and will be having an upcoming scoliosis back surgery that will keep her down in recovery for many months where I need to be by her side. I currently work outside of the home 36 hours per week and that is becoming unfeasible for the care that she needs. I will be using the funds to be able to provide her with my 24/7 care as I transition and find remote work from home so that I am able to be available to take her to the different specialists and Dr. appointments that she needs to go to.
Along with 16p 11.2 chromosome deletion, McKenna has sleep issues, nutritional issues, & emotional issues, the drs are very limited with medications they are able or willing to give her to help with these issues as she is only 6 years old and they all want to wait till she is older to add medications. The limited meds we have tried didn’t work anyway. she needs 24/7 care from me, her mom. Her dad also works outside of the home and picks up overtime when offered and He will continue to do so, but my income needs to be supplemented for a short period as I transition so that I can be with McKenna 24/7. Thank you and I appreciate any and all donations that are able to be made.
The funds I am asking for will cover the income I was bringing in to the family for the next three months while I navigate the appointments and process of reaching out getting more information answers and applications and appointments towards the grants and social security that McKenna qualifies for. and by that time, I will have transitioned and found work from home that I can do online while McKenna is sleeping. We are a blended family of seven and I have 4 other children in the home, and there are many needs that need to be provided for here. My working to make the income I make is very necessary. I am just asking for donations to help me transition for 3 months as we cannot go without the 3 months of income that it will take me to get this established to keep me home with McKenna.
McKenna is projected to live with us her entire life and we need to set up accommodations for her future and make sure she has what she needs as a Special Needs Child, like me transitioning to working from home instead of outside of the home to be able to accommodate all of her appointments and going to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota lots of travel and everything else that goes on with her special condition of 16p 11.2 chromosome deletion. It comes with many challenges (and blessings!) and we appreciate any donations that are able to be made.
Sincerely, Melissa.
