In September 2022, two-year-old Maya Chappell lost her life after suffering abuse at the hands of her mother's partner. Despite concerns being raised and opportunities to intervene, the systems designed to protect children failed to prevent her death.

Since then, Maya's family have worked tirelessly to ensure that Maya's voice is heard and that lessons are turned into action. From that determination, Maya's Law was born.

Maya's Law is a campaign calling for stronger child safeguarding measures, including improved information sharing, better multi-agency responses, and greater protection for children who may be at risk from known abusers.

Thanks to the incredible support of the public, we have already achieved so much. Together we have:

• Gathered significant public support through our petition campaign.

• Taken Maya's story to Westminster.

• Secured Parliamentary debates on Maya's Law.

• Met with MPs, ministers and decision-makers.

• Engaged with safeguarding professionals and organisations.

• Raised awareness of the gaps that currently exist in child protection systems.

• Continued to ensure Maya's story is helping drive discussions about reform.

However, campaigning for change comes with ongoing costs.

Many people see the meetings, events and social media posts, but behind the scenes there are essential expenses that allow the campaign to continue, including:

• Website hosting and maintenance.

• Public liability and event insurance.

• Market stall and awareness event costs.

• Educational materials, leaflets and posters.

• Banners and exhibition displays.

• Community engagement activities.

• Travel and meeting costs when engaging with decision-makers.

• Resources to support awareness, training and safeguarding work.

Maya's Law is not a registered charity. Donations made through this page are not charitable donations and will be used solely to support the running and development of the Maya's Law campaign.

This campaign has always been about more than one child. It is about every child who deserves to be safe, every family who deserves to be heard, and every opportunity we have to prevent another tragedy.
