My cousin Max was my first best friend. He is incredibly dedicated and hard-working, he loves his nieces and nephews, and he’s a fan of hardcore punk. He lives with his adorable cats Nova, Cookie, and Bean (pictured above) in southern Missouri. He is also transgender, and it's been an honor to watch him become himself over the past few years.
Unfortunately, the powers that be in Missouri are determined to restrict the ability of trans residents like Max to exist in public. The attorney general has made attempts to restrict healthcare for trans youth and adults -- so even though Max is an adult, his access to medications and understanding providers is at risk due to these efforts. Lawmakers have made targeting trans people one of their top priorities this legislative session, and the 2024 election results have emboldened widespread dehumanization and discrimination.
It is no longer safe for Max to live in a state that has made it clear he is not welcome there, and he is planning to move to Minnesota. In contrast to Missouri, our state is standing up to attacks on trans folks and he has family (me!) who can help him navigate life up here.
However, moving is expensive, and we need your help to make this happen. This goal is for a new car, which Max needs before he can plan any further. He is currently driving a 2003 model that would not make it through this far of a move.
If we meet this goal, then I will extend the amount to include other needs such as costs for the move itself and living expenses while he looks for a new job.
I am so excited to see Max thrive in a vibrant trans community and appreciate your support to help him do so. We are so grateful for any help you can provide. A donation of any size makes a difference, as does spreading the word and sharing this fundraiser. Thank you!
