Hi! I'm Max Liebermann, a Life Scout with Troop 284 in Lafayette, California, and I'm working toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I've chosen to support the Extended Family Program, a community organization that has been quietly doing extraordinary work since 1994.
What the Extended Family Program Does
The Extended Family Program helps veterans, refugees, and recently homeless families re-establish permanent homes. When a family moves out of homelessness, the program furnishes their new apartment with everything they need to start fresh: beds, bedding, kitchen equipment, towels, and other household essentials. Originally founded by the Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, the program now partners with Lafayette Christian Church and the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church. As of December 2025, it has helped 518 families rebuild their lives.
My Project
As the program has grown across three congregations, its outreach materials have fallen behind. The current recruitment video is over ten years old and no longer reflects what the program does today. My project will bring everything up to date by:
- Building a new website with current information and volunteer resources
- Creating a new brochure for all three churches, with an initial print run of 200 color tri-fold brochures
- Producing a new recruitment and fundraising video featuring Scout service days, volunteer stories, and program highlights — to be hosted on YouTube and the program's website
- Leading fellow Scouts in hands-on service, including moving furniture for incoming families, organizing donations, filming, and distributing outreach materials
Why It Matters
Better materials mean more volunteers. More volunteers mean more families served. Your contribution helps make that possible — and helps me complete one of the most meaningful requirements on the path to Eagle Scout.
Your donations cover all production, printing, and supply costs for the project, with any remaining funds going directly to the Extended Family Program to support their ongoing work.
Thank you so much for your support, it truly means the world to me and to the families this program serves.
