Support Max’s Fight Against Ewing's Sarcoma

Maxwell Logan is wise beyond his years, a deep thinker with a vocabulary that rivals countless adults.  He is kind and charming with impeccable comedic timing, but most of all, Max has the best heart.

Like so many 13 year old boys, Max pretty much eats, sleeps and breathes sports.  This baseball season he began complaining of some left arm pain and swelling.  This did not stop him from playing, so we assumed it was a muscle strain of some sort.  When the issue persisted we saw Max's pediatrician, thinking we would get a brace and maybe a recommendation of some Physical Therapy.   Thankfully the doctor ordered x-rays of his arm to be thorough.  That random Tuesday evening after the images were interpreted,  we received the devastating news that Max most likely had bone cancer.  After a swift response of more imaging, a biopsy and surgery in Rochester, it was confirmed that our sweet and active boy has Ewing's Sarcoma.

It has been a month now since Max's diagnosis and disbelief has given way to determination.  Hospital stays for his in-patient chemotherapy treatments have led to meeting some of the most kind and inspiring people.  Walking the halls of the Pediatric Oncology unit, you can feel both the hope and exhaustion emanating from these families.  Our journey has just begun, as Max is expected to have seven months of in-patient chemotherapy in addition to surgery and finally radiation.  We cannot stress enough that thus far, the thing that sustains us is knowing we are not alone.  These scary, unimaginable moments are softened by the comfort found in the support of our community, friends and family fighting right with us.  Our faith keeps us going, some days literally to put one foot in front of the other.  Any and all prayers and good thoughts are appreciated more than you will ever know!  Thank you.
