On May 15th, 2025, Matthew Yellen was on his way home from the Post Office. Traveling on the logging roads in Edna Bay Alaska, Matthew lost control of his vehicle and suffered severe trauma. By the grace of God, Matthew was found quickly and the Coast Guard was summoned to administer care and flight him to Sitka. With known life threatening injuries of head trauma, severe facial fractures and lacerations with several limb fractures as well, the decision to air flight him to a trauma center became paramount. With the ticking of precious time, the urgency to decide on the closest flight team and trauma center directed Matthew to land at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.

Matthew has been diagnosed with the following:

Basal Subarchnoid Hemmorhage

Bilateral Subdural Hematoma

Zygomatic and Maxillary Fractures with trauma to his left eye

Kidney Contusion and Left arm elbow dislocation and fractured ulna

The acute brain injury has Matthew in a coma, and unresponsive. Despite the appearance, there is a positive prognosis of regaining consciousness and receiving extensive therapy in order to return to a normal life.

For Matthew, his normal life is quite extensive. Matthew is a loving man, married to Sarah and the father of their two boys, Elijah and Caleb. They moved to Edna Bay, Alaska in 2023 with plans of making a more independent life on the off grid island. As faith directed their decision, God also had a plan to bring Matthew to Pastor at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Edna Bay. The church had lost their previous pastor when he had passed in January of 2021.

Matthew's faith is strong and we believe fervently in the power of prayer. We ask for financial help as this family weaves their way through this long process of recovery and rehabilitation. A this time, Matthew remains unconscious, a breathing tube in place and his wife and mother in prayer by his side.
