Masoka came to the U.S. one year ago as a single mom with her six children. She is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, but her family escaped the genocide there by running away to Tanzania when she was a young girl. Masoka spent twenty years in a refugee camp, where all her children were born. They patiently waited their turn to be accepted as refugees by the U.S. and were finally admitted in 2024.
No one spoke English when they arrived. The children are learning English in school, but Masoka had to stay home to care for her baby, so she didn't have a chance to learn. The oldest daughter, who was 18 when they arrived, supported the family by working at a hotel. She is nearly 20 now and recently got married. She and her husband moved to another state, leaving the family without a breadwinner.
Masoka needs help to pay for rent and utilities while she learns enough English to get a job. Her oldest son, who is in high school, is trying to get a summer job to support the family.
Can you donate any amount to help this family?
