Help Support Martin’s Kidney Transplant Recovery

My name is Melanie, and my family and I are raising funds for my sister, Jessica Messenger, her husband Martin, and their children.

If you know Jessica and Martin, you know what wonderful people they are. Jessica is a dedicated wife, mother, and educator who goes above and beyond for everyone she meets. Martin is a devoted husband and father who has faced a long and difficult medical journey.

After receiving a kidney transplant from his brother 24 years ago, Martin’s kidney has now begun to fail. Over the past few years, he has been through countless appointments, testing, and care with specialists, including both oncologists and his nephrologist. Now, Martin has reached the point where he needs another life-saving kidney transplant.

His surgery is scheduled for October 1, 2025, and his donor will be their oldest son, Kane (28 years old). Kane is generously giving his father the gift of life, but as a result, he will also be unable to work for 6–8 weeks while he recovers.

This means that both Martin and Kane will be out of work at the same time, creating an even greater financial strain on Jessica. In addition, Jessica will need to take time off to care for Martin, Kane, and their three younger children (ages 15, 13, and 11) — making sure they continue with school, football practice, and their daily routines.

This recovery will involve extended hospital stays and significant time at home focusing on healing. We are asking for help to ease the financial burden so Martin and Kane can recover without added stress or worry, and so Jessica can focus fully on caring for her family during this critical time.
