Mario Pérez has been a local Ithaca resident for three years and has enjoyed getting to know his neighbors and picking up burritos with Food Not Bombs on Tuesdays. He moved here from Guatemala and is making his living as a cleaner in people’s homes. He was living with five other roommates from Guatemala. Just about a month ago, their place burnt down. Just like that, they lost their home, clothes, and other belongings. Now, they are scattered around the Ithaca area, working different jobs. $5,000 would cover rent, and $1,000 would allow Mario to buy amenities and the basics for their place of living.
