My name is Haley, and I’m Marino’s girlfriend.
On what should have been a normal drive home from work, our lives changed in an instant.
Marino had stayed late to work overtime because we’re supposed to close on our first home on August 6. After finally clocking out, he was driving home when he came to a red light. When the light turned green, he looked left—it was clear. He looked right—it was clear. As he started to go, he glanced left one more time and saw a vehicle speeding straight toward him.
He slammed on his brakes in what I truly believe saved his life. Instead of taking the full impact directly into the driver's door, the other vehicle struck the front driver's side of his car.
The driver who hit him was allegedly fleeing from police near Terex and Route 91. After crashing into Marino's car, the suspect got out and exchanged gunfire with officers while Marino was still trapped inside his vehicle.
The crash was devastating. Marino's new car was completely totaled. He suffered four broken ribs, a broken collarbone, air around his heart, and fluid in his abdomen. He remains in the hospital as doctors continue to monitor his heart, the internal injuries, and work to manage his pain.
Through no fault of his own, Marino will be unable to work for an unknown amount of time while he recovers. In addition to mounting medical expenses, he now has to replace his totaled vehicle and cover everyday living expenses during his recovery.
If you know Marino, you know he is the kind of person who is always there to help others without hesitation. Now, he is the one who needs support. If you are able to donate or even share this fundraiser, our family would be incredibly grateful. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help relieve some of the financial burden so Marino can focus on what matters most—healing.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
