Help us support a couple attacked by ICE in Simi Valley. Maria Laura and Henry require assistance with legal fees, rent, and other living expenses.
When leaving their home on Thursday, June 3, Maria Laura Carmona and Henry Majano were stopped by who they thought were police officers. Henry, under the impression that traffic police had stopped them, provided the agent with his license. Soon after, several agents swarmed their vehicle and attempted to open the door. When they were not able to, the agents broke the window and dragged the couple out onto the street. Both of them were extremely harmed and treated aggressively. As the situation was unfolding, Maria Laura exclaimed that she was pregnant and said that it made no difference to the ICE officers.
After being detained, Maria Laura was transferred to a hospital because of her injuries. Her private medical documents were taken by ICE, and she mentioned they treated her poorly the entire time. Luckily, the baby is in stable condition, and Maria Laura has been instructed to rest and recover.
Eventually, she was released with an ankle monitor, and Henry is still detained, awaiting court to be able to reunite with his partner and future baby.
Please join us in supporting them navigate the legal system to fight for Henry’s release, as well as covering costs of Maria Laura’s recovery and transition to living without her partner temporarily.
