Mara (trans-femme) has been transitioning for just over a year. Now, we see the writing on the wall—in January, the federal government will begin to push violent legislation against the trans and queer community at large. We currently live in Arkansas, which is already not a safe place for us, but things have taken a turn for the worse since the election.
And so, we are choosing to move to Minneapolis.
We are choosing to protect ourselves, our happiness, and Mara's work at becoming her fullest self. We are choosing to leave behind the hate-filled stares and men who roll down their windows to scream at her for walking on the sidewalk, simply living. We know we could stay, but we are choosing to leave to give us a chance. A fresh start.
