Hi, my name is Nadine Shema and I am fundraising for Mama Cecile.
"Nabo N’abantu" Foundation is a non-for-profit and a charity organisation founded by Cecile Bukuru Gasongo AKA Mama Cecile who is a mother, auntie, sister, and friend to many.
"Nabo n’abantu" meaning “they are also human beings”, or “they also deserve the best” is an organisation based in Bujumbura/Burundi supporting and empowering the most vulnerable people including the poor, widows, single parents, orphans just to mention a few to afford them a purposeful life, be self-sufficient and financially independent and become fully participating citizens both economically and socially.
Mama Cecile officially launched this project in 2021, but she has been supporting the vulnerable in Burundi for more than 30 years. Mama Cecile has always had a heart for the poor, and she has been using her personal resources to support them.
Mama Cecile has a big plot of land in Bujumbura where she has been building a Centre for the project on her own. However, it has become difficult for her to continue and compete the construction work as it is very costly. This is the reason she needs our support.
This fundraiser is to assist her to complete the work she started and enable her to continue to give back to the community.
The support provided will ensure that the building facilities are completed and together we will give hope to the hopeless.
Project activities:
- Build a community Centre which will be a one stop Centre for training, social and cultural activities.
- Teach different skills to beneficiaries such as sewing, cooking, computer literacy, entrepreneurship, …
- Develop social enterprise and income generating projects for beneficiaries and provide start-up to them to start their own businesses/projects.
- Pay school fees for students who dropped out due to lack of finances.
- Provide crisis accommodation for homeless people.
Location:
Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi with the aim to cover the whole country.
The main office will be in Nyabugete in Ruziba - Bujumbura.
This is where she has started the construction of some buildings for the charity.
Budget:
- Completion of construction work: Multipurpose Hall, rooms for crisis accommodation, training rooms and office: AU$20,000
- Equipment: sewing machines and materials, kitchen appliances, computers, and furniture: AU$4,000
- Start-up funds (trainers/staff salaries, bills, school fees for dropouts …): AU$6,000
- Total: AU$30,000
