Hello, my name is Malcolm Ramsey-Ray, and I am an early childhood educator and community member based in Altadena. Until recently, I lived on my family's farm, where we run Village Playgarden, a nature-based kindergarten and preschool that nurtures young children through outdoor education and exploration.

On January 8th, everything changed. In less than 24 hours, the Eaton Fire swept through our property, and I woke up to the devastating news that everything I owned had been destroyed. Thankfully, my girlfriend and I were out of town when the evacuation order was issued, and my family was able to make it out safely. But as we were away, I was unable to evacuate any of my belongings—our entire home is gone with everything in and around it, including my car.

The car I lost was a 2002 IS300 that I had saved up for and worked on myself this fall. I had paused the insurance while traveling. Now it is a melted, unrecognizable hunk of metal. So much of my life is destroyed, my project and means of transport only being the cherry on top. In addition to such a loss, Village Playgarden, which has been a sanctuary for children and families in our community, is now in ruins. Helping my family run this business was my biggest source of income and that will not be an option for the foreseeable future.
This is a time of overwhelming grief, uncertainty, and hardship. I am asking for help to get back on my feet. Any donations will go toward securing the essentials I need to continue living and working during this catastrophe. This includes securing temporary housing, replacing lost items, and aiding with transportation costs. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others who may be able to help would mean the world to me.
With endless gratitude,
Malcolm Ramsey-Ray
