Support Malakai's End Of Life Vet Costs

Hi! My name is April and if you know me, you know my dog, Malakai. He is my pride & joy. He is also my ESA, for my depression, anxiety and bipolar. Anyone who meets him absolutely adores him with good reason.

On 07/18/24, Malakai was throwing up, he ended up throwing up some socks which he has done before. However, as the night went on, he was having diarrhea with blood in his stool.

On 7/19/24 at approximately 7:30AM, we rushed him to the Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Oakdale, MN.

Our first estimate was $12,000. We had that covered between our credit cards. However, at approximately 12:50PM, my worst fear happened. Malakai went septic and it had ruptured. Our $12,000 estimate climbed up to $17,000.

Edit: As of 2PM, our estimate has climbed up to a little under $20,000. I have attached a photo with a new estimate. His bowl ruptured and he might lose part of his intestine.

UPDATE - 7/19/24 - 10:20PM: His blood pressure has dropped. He will be getting a plasma transfusion to help with his low protein which in turn will help with his blood pressure. He is comfortable.

UPDATE - 7/20/24 - 1PM:

I have been visiting with him, his blood pressure is slowly climbing being assisted by blood pressure meds. His blood sugar is good and his vitals are stable. He was on a "bair hugger" which is a machine that warms the body, but he is now temperature regulated. We are working on getting his kidney function up and his blood sugar raised - those are our two biggest concerns for the moment.

UPDATE 07/22/24: It is with great sadness that I must announce that our sweet boy crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday afternoon. In the morning, he was doing okay and then took a drastic decline. All of his organs were failing and we were faced with the devastating option to let him keep suffering with no viable options or to help him cross the rainbow bridge. He is (and forever will be) the love of our lives. Until we meet again, my sweet boy.

If you know us, we do not ask for help, we do not ask for money from anyone so this is an extremely hard thing to do for us. This dog is our life and our baby.

Anything sent towards this will go directly to his care and you will be sent a bill of his medical, if requested.

I appreciate all the love and outpouring support from everyone who surrounds us.
