On November 21, 2025, my daughter Makenzie Hopper was in a devastating car accident that broke her neck and left her partially paralyzed. She underwent emergency surgery to repair the fracture and relieve the pressure on her spinal cord. Right now, Makenzie is fighting for her life—she’s developed pneumonia, is on a ventilator, and may need a tracheotomy. She has been in the hospital 9 days now and yesterday they had to insert a tube into her chest to help suction all the gunk away. She also received a blood transfusion because her white blood cells are down. Through all of this, Makenzies strength and spirit continue to shine, but the road ahead is long and uncertain.
Makenzie and her boyfriend both work in the service industry and do not have savings to fall back on. She is also the loving mother of a one-year-old daughter, Kehlani, and a two year old brother who needs constant care and support. My husband and I, along with many friends and family, are traveling daily from Zanesville to Mt. Carmel East in Columbus, Ohio on a daily basis, to be by her side. The costs of gas, food, and childcare for Kehlani are adding up quickly, and we want to make sure Makenzie and her daughter have everything they need during this difficult time.
The funds raised will help cover Makenzie’s medical expenses, ongoing therapy, and essential equipment like a medical-grade bed and wheelchair. They will also support our family’s travel costs, childcare expenses for Kehlani, and daily necessities like diapers, wipes, clothes, and food. We are so grateful for everyone who has been praying for Makenzie, and we ask for continued prayers as she faces this long battle. Makenzie is a beautiful, bright, outgoing, and funny young woman who made a dreadful decision that almost cost her her life. But she’s alive, she’s breathing, and for that, I am ever so thankful. Please share this fundraiser, and know that any help you can give would be deeply appreciated. And I want to thank those of you who have already donated from the bottom of my heart. Everything is deeply appreciated and I am forever grateful for all of the prayers and support.
