Maine Coast Outrigger Canoe Club is Portland’s newest paddling club, uniting our water-loving communities, celebrating movement, and sharing in the love of the ocean. As a new club, we are fundraising to get on the water this season! We have obtained Pohaku, a 6-seat canoe from John Willams Boat Company, and now only need a few more items to get going!
Outrigger canoes are ocean-going vessels originally developed in the South Pacific to move from island to island. The design and shape of these canoes, with an outrigger for support through waves and swell, is ideal for the conditions of Casco Bay and Maine’s open ocean. Maine is home to water-loving folks who appreciate and respect the ocean in all its strength and beauty, and outrigger canoe paddling is one of the best ways to enjoy the ocean while connecting with a team of neighbors and friends. Ideal for all ages and abilities!
Help us kick off our goal of getting on the water this season! With this first canoe, we’ll be able to begin phase one of our club, to educate, train, and spread the passion for outrigging!
