Hi everyone! My name is Madison Floriano, and I am finishing up my didactic year of Physician Assistant school. To start my clinical year, I have the incredible opportunity to travel to San Raymundo, Guatemala, for a week with Refuge International to serve their local community.

While in Guatemala, I will be working under a supervising provider, diagnosing patients, and prescribing medications to those in need. Refuge International sends medical teams to San Raymundo quarterly to ensure the community receives continuous care, and I am beyond grateful to be part of this life-changing mission.

Going on a medical mission trip has always been a dream of mine, and being able to embark on my first one before graduating PA school is truly a blessing. However, there are significant costs associated with this trip, and I would greatly appreciate any support to help subsidize expenses such as travel, lodging, and meals.

Since 2003, Refuge International has been dedicated to improving healthcare access in Guatemala, particularly in rural indigenous communities where medical care is scarce. Many illnesses and deaths in these areas are preventable with basic medical care, nutrition, clean water, and education, but accessibility challenges and language barriers leave these communities underserved.

Refuge International’s mission goes beyond just temporary relief; they focus on establishing long-term, sustainable healthcare solutions by staffing clinics, providing essential medical care, and ensuring ongoing support for the people of Guatemala.
