Lucy is a 16-year-old student with a bright future ahead of her. She is pursuing an IB Diploma, ranks at the very top of her class, and dreams of becoming an archaeologist. Lucy is such a beautiful girl with so many things left to accomplish in life. Now, Lucy and her family are facing something no young person should have to face: she has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her spine.

Lucy will need cancer treatment that may last up to a year. During that time, her mother will be out of work so she can stay with Lucy in the hospital. That loss of income creates a serious strain for the family while they focus on Lucy’s care.

Lucy is one of four children, and her family is already balancing a great deal. One of her siblings has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, which requires a home nurse. With so many ongoing needs at home, the financial impact of a long treatment period will be especially difficult.
