Hi all, please help Lucia be reunited with her son!

Lucia* was brought over to the U.S. by her parents at the age of 6. She had legal status under DACA but let it expire when she was in the midst of an intense domestic violence relationship that also led her into substance abuse. She then lost custody of her one year old, who has been in foster care with a friend of mine these last two years.

Lucia has worked incredibly hard to get her son back. She has been sober for 1.3 years and met all the other court requirements, EXCEPT that she MUST straighten out her legal situation by her final hearing in August or her parental rights will be permanently TERMINATED and she will be DEPORTED without her child at the hearing.

My friend has worked with dozens of families in the foster care system in the last decade and she says that of all the bio parents who have tried to get their kids back, she can vouch for Lucia with the most confidence. Lucia found an attorney who is reasonably confident that at the very least, he can make sure her child is returned to her at the hearing, even if the conclusion is still deportation.

She needs $3500 for the attorney and only has $1000 in her own savings. Lucia has no other village and there is only so much my friend can legally do as the foster mom. So far, we have raised $1000 for Lucia’s legal fees, and are hoping that by using this platform, we can share with a wider network and raise the remaining $1500 needed by the end of THIS week!!
