Hello everyone, I am hoping to raise funds for my parents, Loyd and Doris, who are both disabled. They gave everything they could and sacrificed while raising my sister and me (which any good parent would do), and now I am hoping that a generous community could help me in making their life just a little easier.
My dad, Loyd, became disabled in 2001 and has declined ever since- within the last 5 years especially. He started with bulging discs in his lower back and over time they all ruptured, leading to the multiple bone spurs he has today- causing tremendous pain with nerves becoming pinched in between his vertebrae. He is bound to a wheelchair to get around and mainly stays in bed so the nerves in his back aren't as compressed. This disability has led to many additional health issues acquired over the last 24 years.
My mom, Doris, is also disabled. She has bulging discs in her neck since 2009, fibromyalgia, kidney disease, and congestive heart failure. She easily becomes exhausted with day-to-day chores and often cannot complete them.
They live in a house on a small farm that was built in the 1940's and while they were able to maintain repairs to the home in their younger years, they have not been able to physically or financially maintain the upkeep of the home for at least the last 10 years. Family, including myself and my husband, have helped when we are financially able to do so, but it has become an increasingly long list. Multiple repairs are needed- the sub-floor in multiple rooms need fixing, the ceiling in one room needs to be replaced, and their oven is no longer working (crucial since my mother cannot stand very long to make meals anymore). Many other repairs are needed to the house, but I am unable to list them all. They have often had to take out loans in the past in order afford other appliances that have stopped working. Trying to pay off these loans are putting them in an even tougher spot.
They also have one vehicle that can carry my father's wheelchair to their monthly doctor's appointments, and it also needs maintenance.
The dream would be to get them a handicap accessible van, but they would just be grateful for the financial support for repairs to their existing vehicle.
My parents were hard workers and farmers before they both became disabled, watching them work outside from sun up to sun down. It is painful as a daughter to see them struggling financially and physically as they get older without being able to help them each time.
My hope is to ease their struggle, even just a little, so it is one less thing on their shoulders. If you are unable to donate, please send thoughts and prayers that they find some peace during this trying time. Thank you.
