Support Fresh Produce for Washington Food Banks in Crisis
Donation protected
44 million Americans are food insecure, covering every Congressional district and Washington, DC, according to Feeding America. In Washington State alone, University of Washington research informs us that food insecurity has spiked post-COVID-19, affecting an estimated 30% of households.
Inflation, unemployment, and other economic hardships have forced millions of families who don't qualify for Federal Food Assistance programs to turn to food banks.
Recent cuts in federal funding have seen the Washington State Department of Agriculture lose $4.7 million in food assistance. This is part of larger cuts targeting the US Department of Agriculture feeding programs for vulnerable people nationally.
Jacobs Agro has supported 17 food banks in Jefferson, Pierce, and King County since 2020 with over 60,000 pounds of fresh produce. In collaboration with other farmers, we are continuing and ramping up efforts in a time of need, as more households turn to food banks. The intention is raising $100,000 to produce an additional 25,000 pounds in 2025.
