Our gramz, Linda Carrillo, had a throat procedure on May 21, 2025 so she could begin to eat and swallow again, she came out of the procedure with complications leading to her being transported to University of Iowa Hospital for an emergency surgery. In the surgery, they placed chest tubes to support drainage of excess fluid and doctors have been fighting pneumonia and infections in her lungs, as well as having to remove her spleen, and place a stent in her esophagus which resulted in her being unable to eat or drink, to present day. Much of her tissue was fragile and unable to withstand sutures and while she can talk and move, her body is tired and recovery is taking longer than anticipated. Gramz has been fighting high fevers and has a substantial amount of fluid in her right lung and is needing a second surgery.
The family has been driving from Des Moines to Iowa City, with some of us sleeping in the hosptial to stay with her and be her cheerleaders in recovery, and the extensive care that this journey will require has brought us to request support in all forms from everybody who loves her.
We ask for prayers, good energy, funds if possible and to share with those who know and love her to show Linda how much she is supported and cared for on this journey.
Funds will go towards the family supporting her while in the hospital and the medical needs for her time while in the hospital and beyond.
With love, we send our gratitude.
